It is usually the other way round. Directors find their way to the music and compose for their own masterpieces, in which so many trades interlock to form a whole of their own.
Alberto Bellavia, a versatile film composer, conductor and performing musician, takes a different approach. His first feature-length documentary is about one of the leading Italian companies of the 20th century. FERRRANIA produced photographic and film material on a grand scale. It employed more than 200 engineers and over 5600 workers.
The film takes place in the ruins of the old factory. Alberto Bellavia called this film, which he produced and directed, ‘In the Shadow of the Giant’.
The world premiere takes place today at the ‘Osvaldo Chebello’ theatre in Cairo Montenotte. Further screenings will take place at the same venue on 18 and 28 December 2024.
